A typical PET bottle recycling plant consists of several stages of processing, from collecting waste to creating recycled plastic flakes. Here are the main components and their functions:

  • Conveyor belt: Used to feed the waste material into the system.
  • Bale breaker: Opens tightly packed bales of PET bottles into individual bottles.
  • Trommel screen: Separates heavy contaminants such as stones, caps, sand, and other small debris from the bottles.
  • Pre-washer: Uses hot water to pre-clean the bottles before shredding, removing initial contaminants. (PVC bottles may change color after hot water treatment and require further sorting.)
  • Label removal: Removes most labels from the bottles before shredding. This machine also has a pre-washing function.
  • Sorting conveyor: Manually sorts processed bottles by color, type, and fragment size before pelletizing.
  • Metal detector: Detects any metal contaminants that may remain in the bottles.
  • Granulator/Crusher: A wet grinding system used to reduce the size of the material and provide initial washing.
  • Screw conveyor: Transports the PET flakes.
  • High-speed friction washer: Achieves high cleaning efficiency through beaters and sprays. Suitable for washing damaged films and plastic flakes.
  • Single or double screw washer: Washes and conveys floating flakes.
  • Hot wash tank/steam washer: A hot washing process with caustic soda to remove adhesives and oils.
  • Horizontal dewatering machine: Cleans waste plastic after dewatering and mechanical drying. The rotating drum throws plastic and water onto a screen, separating the water. The machine offers high drying efficiency and energy savings.
  • Secondary pelletizer (optional): Reduces the size of PET flakes to the final required size.
  • Zig-zag label separator (air classifier): For separating individual labels in a shredded form.
  • Blowers and transfer silo: Transports material to the storage silo.
  • Electrical control panel: Controls the entire system.

The recycled plastic will be fed into a new production cycle as raw material.
